| With boost here or there, dial-up endures "Dial-up customers whose companies don't offer an accelerator can still subscribe to one. Propel Software Corp. of San Jose, Calif., which makes the accelerator software for EarthLink, also offers it as a stand-alone service for $5 a month. Users simply route their existing Internet service through Propel's network of compression servers. It's a roundabout way for dial-up users to save a few minutes per surfing session. But there are 60 million of you out there. That's a lot of minutes." Boston Globe, By Hiawatha Bray | September 26, 2005 |

Dial-Up: Does It Work? EarthLink Plus uses a solution engineered by Propel Software Corp. to compress certain page elements, such as text and graphics, shrinking the data sets so they arrive at your location faster. In EarthLink Plus's maximum acceleration mode, the pages loaded in 26 seconds; in minimal acceleration mode, they took 35 seconds. In normal mode, the PCMag.com page loaded in 50 seconds but needed only 20 seconds with maximum acceleration. John R. Delaney, PC Magazine |

Surfing Made Faster Unlike many programs that claim to speed up Web surfing, this one actually works…. although not as fast as broadband, is at least twice the speed of a standard modem. And you don't need any special lines or equipment to use it…If surfing the Web is annoyingly slow and broadband isn't in your immediate future, this is a worthwhile option. Larry Magid, CBS News |

| Propel Software creates faster Web experience -- at a good price I conducted my own Propel performance test using a stopwatch and my temperamental 3-year-old 366-megahertz Celeron laptop with 64 megabytes of memory. .... The most dramatic performance improvements came from Yahoo, which went from loading in 13 seconds to 4 seconds; and eBay, which went from 46 seconds to 7. Every page I tested loaded at least twice as fast. Jon Fortt, San Jose Mercury News |
