Software Receives U.S. Department of Commerce Export Achievement
Certificate
Awards Recognize Propel Software’s “Extraordinary”
Achievement in Bringing Internet Acceleration to Multiple
Foreign Markets
SAN JOSE, Calif., January 24, 2006 –
Propel Software Corporation (www.propel.com),
a market leader in Internet acceleration solutions, has been
recognized by the U.S. Congress and Department of Commerce
for its achievement in opening foreign markets.
Zoe Lofgren, U.S. Congresswoman for the 16th District, and
Keith Hwang, Acting Director, Silicon Valley U.S. Export Assistance
Center, the principal federal export agency of the U.S. Commerce
Department, today presented Propel with a congressional commendation
and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export Achievement
Certificate. The certificate, awarded in a ceremony at Propel’s
San Jose office, recognizes businesses that have used the
export services of the Department’s U.S. Commercial
Service to enter new foreign markets or to grow their international
business.
Since 2004, the U.S. Commerce Department has worked with Propel’s
executive team to introduce Propel’s Internet accelerator
to developing countries where the prevalence of dial-up Internet
access makes the product particularly attractive. Coordinating
these efforts through the U.S. Export Assistance Center and
its worldwide network of export promotion offices, Propel
has already won major accounts in Thailand and Russia.
“Ninety-five percent of the world’s consumers
live outside of the United States, and Propel Software is
an example of how California businesses are working to increase
high tech export sales around the world,” Lofgren said.
“American high tech exports support good high-wage jobs
here at home while fueling ingenuity and innovation in the
world marketplace. I am pleased to recognize Propel Software
Corporation with this honor.”
“The expert assistance of the U.S. Commercial Service
has been invaluable to our global expansion,” said Steve
Kirsch, founder and CEO of Propel. “To enter a new market
successfully you need both an in-depth understanding of the
national economy and a solid network of local contacts, which
is exactly what the U.S. Department of Commerce has offered
us.”
Propel Accelerator is an award-winning Internet acceleration
product that provides a high-speed experience for users of
802.11 hotspots, wireless mobile data, low-speed broadband
and dial-up connections. It is currently deployed by hundreds
of ISPs and other Propel users in more than 75 countries,
making available an improved Internet experience to more than
34 million subscribers.
In the past year, the U.S. Export Assistance Centers in California
have helped local companies make more than $300 million in
export sales. The Center in San Jose facilitated more than
150 export successes totaling $20 million in export sales
from area businesses while conducting several hundred counseling
sessions. In 2002, the Commercial Service helped U.S. businesses
generate export sales worth more than $23 billion.
