Propel Launches Version 4.1 of Award Winning Propel Accelerator
Propel Enhances Web and E-Mail Acceleration for Market Leading Internet Access Accelerator
March 11, 2004, San Jose, CA, Propel Software Corporation today launched the latest version of Propel Accelerator, version 4.1. The award winning Propel Accelerator is now being deployed by ISPs with a customer base of over 20 million users in over 20 countries worldwide.
"Propel continues to be dedicated to alleviating the frustrations of using the Internet," said Steve Kirsch, CEO and founder of Propel. "We listened closely to what our partners and customers have asked for, and we are pleased to deliver a superior solution with Propel Accelerator 4.1."
"We now use Propel's accelerator technology for both our Windows and Macintosh customers," said Kevin Brand, EarthLink's vice president of product management. "We are dedicated to providing our growing Apple customer base with the best possible Internet experience, and Propel is helping us to do just that."
Faster E-Mail and Web Page Downloading
Propel's existing Web e-mail acceleration has been enhanced, and is now accelerating POP3-based e-mail. This means e-mail messages and file attachments being downloaded by POP3 e-mail applications such as Eudora, Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express and others are now accelerated. E-mail acceleration automatically installs and configures when users install the Propel Accelerator Client. No user intervention is required to receive accelerated e-mail, making it fast and easy to begin using this enhanced feature. Additionally, Web page downloading has been enhanced to download even faster. Propel Accelerator now accelerates Web pages containing PNG and BMP graphics and ad images.
Addressing Global Markets
Propel Accelerator 4.1 Client is now fully internationalized allowing localization to any language. Both single and double-byte wide characters are supported to provide ISP customers closer communication with their subscribers. ISPs interested in localization of Propel Accelerator Client have access to Propel Accelerator Client's Localization Kit, which provides the resources required to immediately localize their Propel Accelerator Client in an automated fashion.
ISPs Reap Benefits of 4.1
Propel now allows ISPs to deploy Propel Accelerator to their Macintosh user base by delivering a new Macintosh Software Development Kit (SDK). This SDK allows ISPs to quickly and easily incorporate Macintosh support for Propel Accelerator their existing Internet access software.
"To better serve the needs of the global ISP community, we included several important new features in the release of Propel Accelerator 4.1, and have worked to make upgrading fast and straightforward," said Scott Sorochak, Vice President of Sales for Propel. "The enhanced e-mail acceleration feature is built into the client and server software and requires no administrator configuration, should ISPs choose to deploy this feature." Additionally, Propel has added usage tracking reporting to help ISPs determine the level of use for the Propel Acceleration Server, and has developed Global Traffic Routing to facilitate large, geographically dispersed ISP deployments, eliminating the need to use separate hardware or software.
Propel Accelerator 4.1 is available today for download.
About Propel
Propel Software, an innovator in Web acceleration, was founded in 1999 by Silicon Valley entrepreneur Steve Kirsch, who also founded Web search engine and portal Infoseek (acquired by The Walt Disney Company), authoring and publishing developer Frame Technology (acquired by Adobe Systems Incorporated) and computer peripheral pioneer Mouse Systems Corporation.
Propel's mission is to solve the frustrations of using the Internet. The first of these is a problem that affects approximately 600 million Internet users globally: slow Internet connections. Propel Accelerator speeds up Web browsing up to 5 times by using patent-pending compression, caching and connection optimization techniques. Most recently, Propel Accelerator continues solving frustrations by incorporating the blocking of unwanted pop-up and in-page advertising.
Since its launch in 2002, Propel Accelerator has been deployed by over 100 Internet and network service providers in Canada, Europe, the Middle East and the United States - serving over 20 million subscribers - including EarthLink (NASDAQ: ELNK), PeoplePC Online in the US; and has signed over 500 reseller and affiliates, such as U.S. Robotics. Propel Accelerator has received critical acclaim from Silicon Valley's Mercury News, the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post, and has been named "Editor's Choice" by both CNET and ZDNet. Propel is located in San Jose, California. Visit Propel at www.propel.com.
