Propel Software Announces Low-Speed Broadband Acceleration Service to ISPs
Propel Accelerator Now Available To Millions of New Users
April 15, 2004, ISPCON, Washington, DC, Propel Software Corporation, a leader in Internet acceleration, announced today that their solution, Propel Accelerator, has been enhanced to accelerate low-speed broadband Internet access. Broadband users with slow access to the Internet - low-speed DSL (eg, iDSL, DSL Lite) Satellite, ISDN, and Wireless data - can now benefit from Propel Accelerator. Because of this recent enhancement, Propel will now allow ISPs to expand their reach to a niche user segment - those between dial-up and high-speed broadband - providing relief to millions of broadband users whose connection speeds may be limited due to geographical distance to the telephone companies main switch and those that have purchased lower-speed broadband connections. Propel's solution will eliminate annoying pop-up ads, block unwanted banner ads, bypass Internet congestion by revving up users connections and is designed so users can seamlessly switch between dial-up and low-speed broadband without complicated configuration changes.
According to a new report from Jupiter Research titled The DSL Market Opportunity: Closing the Gap with Cable Modem Providers the broadband market is set to explode. Broadband access is expected to more than double to 46 million-plus households in the U.S. by 2008, up from 21.5 million at the end of 2003. "Despite the promise of broadband, speed increases can still be an issue when choosing broadband over dial-up," said Mike Cassidy, Managing Partner for ISP-Market, LLC a leading consulting firm focused on the ISP community. "Whether it's due to quality, distance or availability, all broadband connections are not created equal. Propel's broadband acceleration technology will enhance low-broadband Internet connections to the speeds that mirror those in the high-speed broadband range."
"Propel is extending its technology to add yet another revenue stream to ISPs, NSPs and wholesalers that offer DSL," said Scott Sorochak, vice president of sales at Propel. "With this enhancement, we are excited to offer acceleration services to the millions of users who have low-speed broadband access."
About Propel
Propel's mission is to solve the frustrations of using the Internet. The first of these is a problem that affects approximately 600 million Internet users globally: slow Internet connections. Propel Accelerator speeds up Web browsing up to 5 times by using patent-pending compression, caching and connection optimization techniques. Further frustrations have been solved by incorporating the blocking of unwanted pop-up and in-page advertising. And most recently, Propel has partnered to deliver content filtering and parental controls.
Since its launch in 2002, Propel Accelerator has been deployed by over 100 Internet and network service providers in Canada, Europe, the Middle East and the United States - serving over 32 million subscribers - including EarthLink (NASDAQ: ELNK), PeoplePC Online in the US; and has signed over 1200 small ISPs, affiliates and OEMs, such as U.S. Robotics, the largest dial-up modem manufacturer. Propel Accelerator has received critical acclaim from Silicon Valley's Mercury News, the Wall Street Journal, and the Washington Post, and has been named "Editor's Choice" by both CNET and ZDNet. Propel is located in San Jose, California. Visit Propel at www.propel.com.
