Latin America’s Largest Internet Service Provider Reports 54-Percent Increase in Sales With Propel Accelerator
Brasil Telecom’s Internet Group Sees Dramatic Growth in Just Six Months
SAN JOSE, Calif., August 1, 2007 - Propel Software Corporation (www.propel.com),a market leader in Internet acceleration and network optimization solutions, today reported that the Internet Group of Brasil Telecom, Latin America’s largest Internet service provider, has seen a 54-percent increase in sales since implementing iG Acesso Aditivado and iG Acesso Exclusivo utilizing Propel Accelerator 6.
Internet Group is made up of three Internet Service providers, including iG, iBest and BrTurbo and has approximately 1.3 million broadband subscribers. It is the Internet arm of Brasil Telecom S.A., one of Brazil’s principal telecommunications companies with more than 10.5 million lines covering an area equal to 33-percent of the country’s land mass. The company has nearly 6,000 employees.
“We had two goals in implementing Propel Accelerator,” said André Molinari, products and services director of iG. “One was to increase sales, and the second was to reduce our churn rates. In just six months the results have already exceeded our expectations, with 54-percent growth in sales and a reduction of almost 10-percent in turnover. Our customers love this product, and demand continues to grow every day. Needless to say, we are extremely pleased with what Propel has done for our business and we look forward to continuing this exciting partnership.”
“The Internet Group of Brasil Telecom is playing a major role in the effort to bring Brazil online, so this partnership with them is a great foray for us into that market,” said David Murray, co-founder, president and chief operating officer of Propel. “Our goal is to improve the Internet experience for millions of users around the world who don’t have access to high-speed connections. It’s great to see such a major operator in Brazil having such a positive impact.”
“Currently only 20-percent of Brazil’s population is using the Internet,” said Molinari. “Many cities and communities lack access to broadband technology. By bringing Web acceleration to dial-up users via Propel Accelerator, Internet Group is expanding Internet usage in the country by delivering Internet access at an affordable price.”
Propel Accelerator is an award-winning Internet acceleration tool that provides a high-speed experience for users of wireless mobile data and 802.11 hotspots, low-speed broadband and dial-up connections. It is currently deployed by hundreds of ISPs and other Propel users in more than 75 countries, making available an improved Internet experience to more than 34 million subscribers.
In May, Propel Software Corporation announced the availability of Propel Accelwize Network Optimization suite. Propel offers two key products as part of the suite. With the first product, Propel Accelerator 6, compression and acceleration have been improved for HTTP and POP3 traffic resulting in a typical data savings of 70 to 90 percent. Propel Accelerator provides a high-speed experience for users of dial-up and broadband connections including DSL, 802.11 hotspots, satellite, GPRS, EDGE, 3G and WiMax.
The second product, Propel® Accelwize™ End Point Optimizer (EPO), part of the Propel Accelwize Network Optimization suite, is designed specifically for wireless carriers and shared bandwidth providers that provides unprecedented bandwidth management, acceleration, and quality-of-service (QoS) benefits for wireless networks.
