Propel Press Release
Propel Expands Global Reach of Internet Accelerator With Addition of Four Major Customers in Latin America
SANTA CLARA, Calif., ISPCON Fall 2006, Booth #507, Nov. 8, 2006 – Propel® Software Corporation (www.propel.com), a leading provider of Internet acceleration solutions, has signed four customers in South America, increasing its presence in Latin America.
Internet service providers Megadatos, Quik Internet, Impsat and Montevideo.com have added Propel Accelerator to their offerings expanding Propel’s acceleration solution in Ecuador, Uruguay, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Peru. The award-winning Propel Accelerator is designed to immediately improve the Web and email experience of individual users by increasing connection speeds for 802.11 hotspots, wireless mobile data, low-speed broadband and dial-up connections.
Headquartered in Quito, Ecuador, Megadatos has thousands of consumer customers, 80 percent of them dial-up. It adopted Propel Accelerator for its dial-up and fixed wireless customers and to speed up Internet services below 200 kbps. It has already seen an increase in customer retention as a result. “We wanted an accelerator to differentiate our services from traditional dial-up, and we decided to go with Propel for several reasons, the most obvious being the high quality of Propel Accelerator,” said Fabio Michelotti, general manager. “But Propel was also willing to accommodate our unique system requirements and has trained staff in the region, which is very important to us. We’ve also been very impressed by the honesty of the Propel team. They’ve been very straightforward about exactly what they can do for us, which is refreshing in an industry where people tend to over-promise just to get you to sign on the dotted line. The folks at Propel are no-nonsense and direct, and we’re looking forward to building a long-term, productive working relationship with them.”
Quik Internet del Ecuador, which is also headquartered in Quito, serves thousands of dial-up and DSL connections. “To stay competitive we’re constantly looking for ways to improve the experience of our customers, and Propel Accelerator is truly fabulous,” said owner Federico Wenner. “Everyone at Quik is excited about rolling it out because our customers who have tried it are astonished and really happy with the increased connection speeds. And when our customers are happy, we’re happy.”
Impsat, the premier satellite provider in Latin America, will deploy Propel Accelerator in Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela and Colombia. All Impsat customers using the accelerator product will be connected to the Internet via satellite stations.
Propel has also signed a contract with Montevideo.com, Uruguay’s oldest Internet service provider.
“These four customers not only demonstrate the increased momentum we’re seeing in Latin America, but they represent the success of our global expansion strategy,” said David Murray, president and COO of Propel. “The number of people getting online in Latin America and in developing nations around the world is growing quickly, and with that growth comes a gradual demand for faster connection speeds, with or without broadband access. Propel Accelerator is an extremely cost-effective way for ISPs offering lower-speed connections to stay competitive with their offerings.”
